Our stories

         Attracting diverse talent

         – men are an important part

         of the conversation

          Women In Mining and
          Resources (WIMAR)
          in Singapore provides
          networking, mentoring and
          professional development
          opportunities for employees
          in the mining and resources
          industry.

BHP has been a close partner
          of WIMAR since the organisation
was founded in 2013. It now has
          more than 900 members, many
          of whom are men.

          One of the many benefits
          WIMAR offers its members is
          the opportunity to be mentored
by those not just in mining and
          resources, but also with diverse
          industry backgrounds and unique
          experiences to share. On average,
a third of the mentoring program
participants are male – either as
          mentors or mentees. Similarly,
          WIMAR networking and industry
          events are also not exclusive
to women, but often show strong
          male representation in the
          attendees or panel members.

          To make the industry more
          attractive to diverse talent, WIMAR
believe that men are an important
          part of the conversation. Through
          focusing on connecting both
          women and men to become
          advocates of change in the
          sector, they can better realise
          the aspiration of inspiring women
          from all backgrounds to challenge
          the status quo and become
          leaders in the traditionally
          male-dominated industry.
